The age old debate: JET vs. Interac

A fellow blogger friend, “Redpath”, has put together a great comparative chart of the perks of working for JET or Interac.  If you’re on the fence on which company you want to apply for (why not both!?), then this should give you a good idea of what you would be getting into with each company.  Either company would be a great company to work for, but some people have different circumstances and needs, so decide on what is best for you.  Knowledge is power!

Japan in Real-Time: The age old debate: JET vs. Interac

Update:  My friend changed websites, so I updated the link.

Happy New Year 2012, Everyone!

Phew!  It’s been awhile since I’ve been posting anything.  I took a nice long vacation at work, which kind of cut down the amount of Internet browsing I’ve been doing for posts.

Anyways, a little bit of good news, I got an email from my ALT company notifying me that the first round of work visas were going to be applied for on December 26th, so I’ll likely be hearing something back somewhere in the middle of January.  Also, they gave me some potential training dates for the last half of March.  This is starting to become so real.  I can’t wait!

As a part of my New Year’s resolution, if something happens where I cannot go to Japan this spring, then I am going to resolve to change my career somehow.  I know I have to branch out into another field or position if I want to develop myself further.  Sure, I could work towards more computer certifications, but my job isn’t exactly rewarding me for getting them (even though they paid for me to get them).  It’s time to look for something different or find a position that will be able to fully utilize my technical skill.  I’m also resolving to exercise more, which I think is going to take the form of riding my bike more.  🙂

Back on the Shinkansen track to Japan!

Well, not literally… heh (but that would be pretty awesome!).  Anyways, I just got an email from my recruiting company informing me my application is being processed again and they sent me my pre-visa paperwork to fill out and sent in to their Tokyo office.  I want to start filling it out RIGHT now, but I should probably get some sleep…  Tomorrow though!

Bad news… O-noes!

Last Monday, my recruiting company sent me an email saying that they had to defer me until this spring because they over recruited for this season. They literally told me last week on Monday, so I’ve been scrambling the past week to make sure I have a place to live as well as a place to put all my junk in.
The hardest part of all this was not so much that I didn’t have a place to move to or that I sold a whole lot of my stuff on craigslist, but the fact that now I have to explain to my family and friends that I don’t get to go and the embarrassment that ensues. So it looks like this blog will not be updated with more Japan stuff until Spring.
